Need some hair-raising inspiration this Halloween? We’ve got you covered! The NEW black tiles from CONNETIX scream Halloween. Read on to discover how you can incorporate black tiles from the CONNETIX Roads Creative Pack to make epic Halloween thrills this year!
1. Spooky Spelling
Learn how to spell spooky words using tiles from the CONNETIX Roads Range. The new shapes in this range offer more ways to build letters of the alphabet. Experiment making letters with the new black tiles and shapes, or use the negative space to help contrast letters of the alphabet. If it’s too much to spell the entire word, just make the first letter. This is great for younger children. E.g. Ghost starts with the sound ‘g’. For older children who are learning to read or spell, consider drawing a single letter or word on each black square using a chalk marker. White and fluoro colours contrast really well with the black tiles. Using this technique, it’s possible to create word scrambles, coded messages/spells, word/letter scavenger hunts and other fun games.
2. Black Bats
The tiles from the CONNETIX Roads Range are perfect for making bats. The quarter circles make great ears, the R-intersections can be transformed into wings and the small rectangles are perfect for legs. Would you build a bat hanging upside down, flying through the sky, wrapped up having a sleep, or perhaps something completely different?
3. Creepy Cats
Creating creepy cats is so much easier with the new shapes and black tiles from the CONNETIX Roads Range. It is now possible to make an oval shape using 2 x turn pieces, 2 x quarter circles and 2 x squares. The oval shape made a cool head for this cat (see below). You’ll also notice that the curves in the black tiles worked well for the cat’s body and tail. To bring this cat to life, I added some googly eyes as a final touch.
4. Petrifying Pumpkins
Make your pumpkins extra terrifying with a touch of black. There’s no need to use a black marker or mismatched tile colours to create a scary pumpkin face, simply add small rectangles and ta-da you have a scary face! Don’t forget to make a hat for your pumpkin too. Experiment with the new curved shapes to discover creative designs.
5. Scary Spiders
We’ve personally made a few spiders over the years using tiles from the CONNETIX Rainbow Range. They were beautiful, bright, colourful and fun. However, adding the colour black makes them so much scarier and more ‘Halloween-like’. Here’s one example of how you could make a spider using the black tiles, though I’m sure there are many other ways a spider or spider web could be made using this versatile range. Be daring and design your own scary spider!
6. Wicked Witches
Wicked witches will be lining up to be styled with tiles from the CONNETIX Roads Range. The T-intersections (which also look like upside down underwear) are an excellent shape for making black dresses. In addition, the curved ramps can be used to make beautiful black silky hair. For this particular witch, I used the black quarter circles to make a round face. However, you could also use a purple or green hexagon if you wanted a different coloured face. Experiment with different hat designs and add details with googly eyes, loose parts and/or chalk markers. Accessorise your wicked witch to complete the look. Things you could consider include a broom, cauldron, potion bottles or a black cat.
I hope these ideas have inspired your play (and not given you nightmares). Use these Halloween ideas to create puzzles, decorate your home, build ball runs, make stop-motions or inspire your own designs!
