Bring Fairy Tales to Life with CONNETIX: 5 Play Ideas

By Kathleen Prinsen

Step into a world of magic, adventure and imagination with CONNETIX! From towering beanstalks to enchanted carriages, fairy tales offer endless inspiration for creative play. With a collection of CONNETIX and a big imagination, you can transform classic stories into hands-on builds that invite storytelling, problem-solving, and hours of fun.

1. Beanstalk Ball Run

Climb into the story of Jack and the Beanstalk with a tall, twisty ball run. Start by building a small house for Jack at the base. Then create a winding beanstalk using green tiles and ball run pieces. Use a base plate and clear rectangles to keep your beanstalk stable. At the very top, add a mighty castle for the giant. Draw Jack and the giant on tiles and let them ‘climb’ up and down, held in place by magnets. Retell the story together, or simply enjoy the satisfying sounds as the balls spiral down the beanstalk. When it’s time to pack up, bring the tale to a dramatic finish by ‘chopping’ down the beanstalk!

2. Billy Goat Bridge

Bring The Three Billy Goats Gruff to life with a fun bridge-building challenge! Use two short CONNETIX ramps (from the Roads and Transport range) and a rectangle tile to make the bridge. Reinforce it underneath with squares and right-angled triangles (Shape Expansion Pack), or let your little engineer experiment to discover their own way keep it sturdy. Add post pieces (from the CONNETIX PRO set) or skip them for a quicker build. Lay coloured tiles below to create flowing water, grassy riverbanks, and patches of dying grass. Use goat figurines, craft materials, or even toilet rolls for the characters. Then listen to your child retell the story, as each brave goat crosses the bridge.

3. Little Pig Houses

Build your own Three Little Pigs adventure with CONNETIX! Create three houses made with yellow or lemon tiles, peach or orange and berry or red to represent straw, sticks and bricks. Keep the straw and stick houses small so they’re easy to knock down and rebuild. Add a chimney to the brick house with a large portal tile (CONNETIX Portal Pack), right-angled triangles, and a square. Make three pigs and a big bad wolf from cardboard, attaching them to mini tiles so they can stand on their own. Now it’s time to act out the story as the wolf huffs and puffs, blowing down the smaller houses and ending at the big strong brick house. Don’t forget to send the wolf tumbling down the chimney for the exciting climax. This activity is a lively mix of building, storytelling and playful destruction.

4. Cinderella’s Pumpkin Carriage

Step into the role of the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella and create a magical pumpkin carriage fit for a princess! Begin by placing a square tile in the middle of a transport base (Transport Pack) for stability. Then shape the pumpkin with a mix of blue and yellow tiles, adding clear squares and rectangles to keep it steady. Twist chenille stems into coiled, wheel-like vines for the sides of the carriage. Use a wooden peg doll (or any little figure) to represent Cinderella and roll her off to the ball. For extra enchantment, tuck a light tile inside and watch your carriage glow magically into the night.

5. Princess Aurora’s Dress

Design a beautiful Princess Aurora dress from Sleeping Beauty, using a mix of glitter, pastel and bright tiles in pink, clear and yellow. Once your dress is complete, bring it to life by drawing Aurora’s head, or turn it into a simple puzzle by tracing around the tiles. If you want more building and less drawing, skip the head and create a collection of dresses instead. Then turn it into a fun guessing game with your child, challenging each other to match each dress to the correct princess.

Fairy tales are filled with inspiration for your CONNETIX creations! Each fairy tale invites children to design, experiment, and bring their favourite moments to life in fun, unique ways. Whether you retell the classics, add your own twists, or explore just a few magical parts, CONNETIX and fairy tales are a match made for imagination. Which fairy tale will you bring to life first?
